ALIS will use a range of current and future Galileo, satcom and terrestrial data communication services and will complement users' other on-board navigation and radar systems. We believe it could also be an extension to AIS systems and will be attractive to users without RADAR or sophisticated chart plotters.

ALIS is not intended to be safety critical, but will provide advisory information. It is aimed at all classes of boat user, but particularly the mass-market general boat user who may not have much on-board electronics, and is based around a simple thin client and server connection which is straightforward for a user to establish.
